Dr. Judith Gersting

Dr. Judith Gersting earned her B.S. degree at Stetson University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. at Arizona State University.

She served as the Computer Science Department Chair at UH Hilo for many years. During that time she helped develop the distance ed program that provided a route to the B.S. degree in Computer Science for students on other islands in the state. She was active in computer science education, and served as the Program Chair and Conference Chair for the national SIGCSE organization. She developed several new courses for the computer science department that are still being taught, including one developed under an NSF grant for teaching the Alice programming language in Hawaiʻi.

She has written a number of computer science college textbooks, the latest being: Mathematical Structures for Computer Science, Seventh Edition, W. H. Freeman and Company, 2014 and Invitation to Computer Science, 8th Edition, Cengage Learning, 2019 (with G. Michael Schneider).

She moved to Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis as a faculty member in Computer Science.
